Getting Started

Forming a team in the National Team Match Play Golf League is a great way to enjoy competitive golf with friends while building camaraderie and testing your skills against other teams. Follow these steps to create your team:

1 Gather Your Team Members

A standard team consists of 6-12 players. When selecting team members, consider:

  • Players should have established handicaps
  • Aim for a mix of skill levels for balanced competition
  • Ensure that at least 4 players can commit to the league schedule regularly

2 Select Team Manager

Designate a team manager who will be responsible for:

  • Managing team registration and paperwork
  • Determining lineups for each match
  • Coordinating with players scheduled to play
  • Handling communication with league officials

It's also recommended to name a co-captain to assist with these duties.

3 Register Your Team

Complete the official registration process:

  • Fill out the team registration form on the league website
  • Fill out your team roster through players on the free agent list
  • Pay the team registration fee
  • Choose a team name and logo (optional but encouraged)
  • Indicate your home course preference if applicable

4 Review League Rules and Format

Ensure all team members understand the league structure:

  • Match format
  • Handicap calculations and adjustments
  • Scoring system and points allocation
  • Playoff qualification requirements
  • Rules for substitutions and roster changes

5 Establish Team Practices

Organize regular team practice sessions to:

  • Build team chemistry and familiarity with potential partners
  • Practice specific match play strategies
  • Familiarize team with home course advantages
  • Work on weaknesses identified from previous matches
