New National Team Match Play Golf League Launches

APRIL 14, 2025 — Golf enthusiasts across the country have reason to celebrate as the National Team Match Play Golf League (NTMGL) announces its inaugural season. This groundbreaking league brings the excitement of team match play competition to amateur golfers of all skill levels, with plans to expand nationally across various age groups and co-ed divisions.

The NTMGL is designed to foster a sense of camaraderie and competitive spirit among amateur golfers while providing a structured league format that emphasizes team strategy and friendly competition. Unlike traditional stroke play tournaments, the match play format creates thrilling head-to-head competitions where every hole matters.

"We're thrilled to introduce this new league format to golf communities nationwide," said the NTMGL Commissioner. "Match play brings a different dynamic to the game that many amateurs rarely get to experience. The team aspect adds another layer of excitement that we believe will resonate with golfers across the country."

Beginning in 2026, the league will operate on a full schedule from April through September, with playoffs scheduled for October. For this inaugural year, the season will run on a compressed schedule from May through September, with playoffs still taking place in October to crown the first NTMGL champions.

The league structure will include various divisions to accommodate golfers of all backgrounds:

• Open Division (all ages)
• Senior Division (50+)
• Co-ed Division
• Women's Division

Teams will consist of 4-12 players who will compete in biweekly matches against other local teams. The format is individual matches to test players' versatility and teamwork.

Regional coordinators are currently being established across the country to help organize local leagues, with the goal of having representation in every major metropolitan area by the 2026 season.
