Understanding Match Play Scoring

New to match play? Here's everything you need to know about how scoring works in NTMGL competition.

Unlike stroke play where total strokes determine the winner, match play is decided hole by hole. Win a hole, and earn a point for your team. Lose a hole your opponent earns a point for their team. Tie a hole, and the match status stays the same.

Handicap strokes are applied to specific holes based on the course's stroke index. The player receiving strokes gets one stroke on the holes where their handicap allows.
